Music department

The music department of the University of Arts is located in a historical house, close to the main building of the University.

The building is on the list of the oldest residential houses in the city, built in the 17th century, it was "baptized" as early as the 1600s as "The Executioner's House", following a confusion among the laymen, and for this reason around this construction a legend combined with truth was created.

The legend has spread over time that, in that house it is said that whole generations of executioners lived. The house was built by Tolnai Janos, who was a judge or prothonotary, as he was called at the time, and since people did not correctly understand the name of the position that the judge held, he was nicknamed "the executioner", and the house where he lived received obviously the name "The Executioner's House".

Since 2005 The University of  Arts was granted the use of the location for the course of the Music Department.
